At the moment there are two available coronavirus testing methods 1) molecular and 2) serology. Most of the testing is done by molecular kits (PCR). Testing protocol in China, and we believe in most parts of the world, states that PCR test should be done to confirm if someone is infected. In general, when we hear of new cases on the news, and that someone has been tested, this probably means tested by PCR.

Our test is serology, antibody detection. Serology alone cannot be used to confirm if someone is infected, serology is done in addition to PCR to make sure that there are no false negative results by PCR. We've seen data from China which shows that PCR is not detecting 100% all cases. Serology + PCR in parallel can assure that all infected individuals will be identified.

The 2nd use of serology kits is after someone has recovered. When a recovered person has no antibodies, this means that it is possible to get infected again. These persons should be put under observation and kept in isolation till there are no new cases in their surroundings.

Global Diagnostics B in Belgium offers also a rapid test for the qualitative detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to 2019-nCoV in human whole blood (from venipuncture or fingerstick), serum or plasma.
